2nd Vice District Governor

Linda Chessmore

I am Linda Chessmore from Atwood, KS, your 2nd VDG for District 17-K. Here is a little information about me. I am married to Steve Chessmore; we have 2 dogs; a shitzu and a miniature Schnauzer. Our oldest daughter lives in Dighton, KS with her fiancé’ Ryan and their daughters Aria (12) and Evey (10). Our youngest daughter Alison lives in Cherry Creek, Colorado. Steve and I are very active (busy) in Lions Club, Atwood activities, Church, and of course BBQ (Smokin’ Red, White, & Blue BBQ) competitions; that has turned into a catering business.

I did not know what Lions Club was until I moved to Atwood and met Steve Chessmore, became Secretary and then President (which no one wants my job). I’ve enjoyed learning about this organization, that I fit in with so well. I was not going to be 2nd VDG until Steve retired…. but looked what happened. I understand a lot of people, don’t want to step up, because they are scared, I am not a leader, or I don’t know what it consists of? Well, I am scared, excited, ready and willing to do what is best for our district. I promise to do my best in the next 3 years.

Goals and looking ahead for District 17-K are:

  1. Fun
    1. This needs to be brought back with games, silly string, and some borrowing of items from clubs or even a traveling stuffed Lion!? Isn’t this what it was all about back in the day?
  2. Membership
    1. Women
      1. Did you see last year’s governors? They were all women! How awesome was that? Can we boost our women into leadership roles, why yes, we CAN!
      2. Don’t forget the small people (our members that are not in leadership roles).
  3. Health and Wellness
    1. Making sure we are all taking care of ourselves before we go out and market our Lions Club.  Are you drinking enough water, eating and exercising?
  4. Learning about Lions Club and bringing it back to our clubs!
    1. We can share all the information we take from our meetings and make our districts even better! I enjoyed the classes we had at Fort Hays, learned a lot! Let’s bring them back. We need to improve ourselves and have TEAMWORK!
  5. Unique ways of doing service activities
    1. This will be a work in progress and will benefit not only who we serve but us Lions members.

My passion after being DG would be membership, band, conventions, and trainings. I look forward to the next three years serving you in this leadership role. I have a lot more to talk about in the upcoming year about my role as 2nd VDG and what we all have in store to make this a great year!
